Frequently Asked Questions About Buying a Motorhome
-
What are the different classes of Motorhomes?
+There are three primary classes of drivable motorhomes: Class A, Class B, and Class C. Class A motorhomes are the largest, most luxurious, have the most interior space but cost the most to purchase and maintain. Class B motorhomes, sometimes called camper vans are the smallest of the three primary classes and are known for their efficiency and maneuverability. Class C motorhomes have more space than Class B but smaller than Class A making them a great balance overall. You can read more details about each of the different RV classes in our article RV Classes Explained. -
How much is a Class A motorhome?
+New Class A motorhomes typically start in the six-figure range and can exceed half a million dollars. On the lower end of the market, a modern, used Class A motorhome can be had for under $100,000. -
How much is a Class B motorhome?
+New Class B motorhomes typically sell in the $100,000 range, while gently used Class B motorhomes can be had for as little as $50,000. -
How much is a Class C motorhome?
+New Class C motorhomes start around $80,000 and can reach upwards of $175,000, while used Class C motorhomes can be found for less than $85,000. -
Can you drive a motorhome with a car license?
+Yes. You don’t need a special type of license to drive most motorhomes. If the motorhome weighs under 26,000 pounds, you can drive it with a regular driver’s license. Most of the largest motorhomes – which are Class A - weigh less than that and there are very few Class A’s which weigh above 26,000 pounds. -
How long can you finance a motorhome?
+Most RV loan terms range from 10 to 15 years, but some finance companies will offer terms up to 20 years (240 months). -
What type of motorhome should I buy?
+This depends on your planned usage, your budget, and the number of people you’ll be traveling with. Most first time RV owners don’t purchase a Class A motorhome due to their cost and large size which can present challenges for the novice RV driver. Class B, the smallest of the drivable motorhomes, is great for couples but could be cramped for a larger family but their drivability is attractive to first time RV buyers. Class C are ideal for most families and the driving experience is like driving a luxurious extra-long truck. Consult an RV dealer near you and let them help you find a motorhome which meets your needs. -
What’s the best car to tow behind a motorhome?
+The most popular vehicles to tow behind an RV are a Jeep Wrangler, Fiat 500, Chevy Equinox, Toyota Corolla, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Each made our list of popular vehicles to tow behind your RV.
