The 2015 Airstream Interstate 3500 Lounge EXT is a Class B touring coach built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 platform. It measures 24 feet 4-1/2 inches in overall length and 6 feet 7-7/10 inches wide, with an exterior height of 9 feet 8 inches including the roof-mounted air conditioning unit. Interior height is 6 feet 2-1/4 inches and interior width is 5 feet 10 inches. The Lounge EXT configuration seats 8 passengers and sleeps 2, with the rear power sofa converting to a sleeping area measuring approximately 5 feet 10 inches by 6 feet 10 inches.

Power comes from a Mercedes-Benz V6 3.0-liter BlueTEC turbo diesel engine producing 188 horsepower and 325 pounds of torque, mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with a 3.92 axle ratio. Fuel economy is rated at 18-plus MPG estimated highway from a 26.4-gallon fuel tank. The chassis is the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 with a 170-inch wheelbase, four-wheel disc brakes, reinforced leaf springs, rack and pinion steering, and Alcoa DuraBright forged aluminum wheels. Tow capacity on the EXT platform is rated up to 5,000 pounds.

Inside the cabin, the Lounge EXT is finished with high-gloss laminate cabinetry, flush-mount solid slab cabinet hardware, Ultraleather seating, and plank-style synthetic flooring over a 7-layer composite floor system. The aluminum ceiling and trim carry the Airstream signature look throughout. Seating consists of swiveling and reclining captain chairs in the forward section, with two removable tables and the rear power sofa completing the lounge layout. Two 22-inch LED widescreen HDTVs are installed, one in the forward cabin and one in the rear lounge area. A Blu-ray player and rear stereo speakers are included. Adjustable LED lighting runs throughout the cabin, with overhead map lights in the cockpit and driver and passenger door entry lighting.

The galley features a Corian countertop with backsplash, a 2-burner cooktop with integrated cover, a sink with integrated cover and fold-down faucet, a 3.1-cubic-foot refrigerator/freezer operating on both 12V and 110V, and a 1.2-cubic-foot microwave/convection oven. The wet bath includes a toilet, shower, sink with mirror, retractable clothesline, towel rack, and an expandable pocket door for additional space. Fresh water capacity is 32 gallons (26-gallon tank plus 6-gallon hot water heater). Grey tank holds 27 gallons and black tank holds 15 gallons. The Atwood XT gas/electric water heater with direct-spark ignition provides 6 gallons of output, expandable to 9 gallons. Climate control is handled by a 13,500 BTU roof-mounted air conditioner and a 16,000 BTU LP furnace. LP capacity is 15.1 gallons, or 61.9 lbs.

Mechanical equipment includes two Deep Cycle Maintenance Free Group 24 AGM coach batteries, a 50-amp multi-stage charger with 1,000-watt inverter, a 2.5kW LPG generator, a 100-watt solar panel, and 30-amp/110-volt shore power service. The macerator waste pump and power retractable hose reel are included. An in-dash 7-inch touchscreen multimedia system provides GPS navigation with voice guidance, traffic data, and the ecoRoute fuel-efficiency function. Heated driver and passenger seats are standard. The cockpit also includes heated windshield, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, power windows, power door locks, a locking glove box, and a concealed storage compartment in the dash.

Exterior features include an armless power awning with adjustable LED lights, an LED patio light, a power entry step at the sliding side door, power heated mirrors, an exterior shower, an LP accessory hookup for a grill, and 110-volt exterior power outlets. The full body kit includes chrome enhancement and OE color-coded components. The rear bumper carries 3M protective film. Rear hidden storage compartment and more than 30 cubic feet of additional rear storage are standard on the EXT platform. Safety equipment includes Mercedes-Benz Adaptive ESP with trailer assist, collision prevention assist, lane keeping assist, blind spot assist, front and rear parking assist, a rear view camera that operates continuously, 6 safety airbags, a smoke and CO alarm, LP gas detector.
